About the Social Enterprise Alliance North Texas Chapter
The North Texas Chapter of the Social
Enterprise Alliance was formed in 2010 in partnership with the Center
for Nonprofit Management with the vision of making North Texas a national
leader in building sustainable social enterprises. The North Texas Social
Enterprise Alliance is a thriving community of social entrepreneurs and
social enterprise executives coming together to connect, learn, and share
knowledge to advance the field of social enterprise.
The chapter provides members with:
- access to information and resources,
- practical business tools,
- professional development,
- events and educational forums, and
- support to improve the profitability and impact of
social purpose ventures.
What is a social enterprise?
A social enterprise is a revenue-generating organization or venture that
generates income to support a primary social or environmental mission.
Social enterprises build a more just, sustainable world by applying
market-based strategies to today’s social problems. Some of the key economic
contributions made by social enterprises include “high value” job creation,
business capacity-building and creating sustainable social business models.

Why social enterprise?
Today’s economic environment has precipitated a need for a new approach to
delivering social and environmental value. Factors contributing to social
enterprise being recognized as a newly-formed business sector include:
- Nonprofits needing new solutions for sustainability due to declines in
charitable contributions;
- Social need in the community increasing;
- Corporations and government entities cutting jobs and budgets.
